We are baby sitting for our two grandsons – 5 and almost 3.  They are wonderful.  Even getting them to sleep has not been a problem.

BUT – I am in Carb Hell.

Everywhere I turn is another bag or box of highly processed carbs.  I can’t remember having that much crap around our home when our kids where growing up.  The sheer volume of this stuff is amazing.   Much of it has marketing hype on the packaging:  all natural, low-fat, only 100 calories per serving.  Bull.

Opened the fridge to scrounge up dinner for ourselves while the parents are out to dinner and a movie – more of the same.  Frozen bags of everything – including fruit.  Nothing in its natural state.

It is not just the carbs.  Since we have started eating low carb, we have had to come to terms with eliminating most processed foods.  Almost all processed foods have added carbs.  We have become a “Clean Eat” household as a side benefit.   I don’t kid myself, I am not “against” processed foods per se, I am against the carbs.  One slip of will power and I will be like vacuum cleaner – inhaling every bag and box in the cabinets, fridge and freezer – especially without the 52DC being in session.

My wife is valiantly trying to cobble together dinner, while I assuage my hunger with string cheese.

I wanted to catch dinner before we got there.  “Don’t bother, we have a house full of food, you can spend the time playing with the kids” – yeah right!

To make things worse – the little guys is allergic to soy and peanuts.  No peanut products in the house – no problem.  Soy – is the problem, since it is in everything.  End result – no bread products.  Big deal, you say – you don’t eat bread anyway.  Well they are constantly baking bread for him and them.  There is a tray of freshly made bagels cooling on the counter.  The damn things are like a Greek Chorus shouting Eat Me over and over and over again.

Heeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllpppppppppppppppppppppp Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
