It was 3 months ago I had a Retinal Tear which I reported in a prior post.  Monday afternoon I went for my final follow-up visit with the Retina Specialist.  I really hate the exam.  Aside from having your eyes super dilated, the doc seriously man-handles your eyeball.  Not fun – but happily – everything is good in both eyes and I am now released from active treatment.

After the original repair, I asked when I could go back to exercising.  We had a discussion and I was told to not do anything for a while.  I was not happy.  I didn’t think he fully grasped the extent to which I exercise.   About half way through this last exam, he started asking me about my exercising and weight loss.  It seems that he is unhappy with his weight gain.  He appears to have a couple of years on me – but it is hard to tell.  He is one of those guys that has an old affect.

I told him what I had done and how I had lost the weight.  He was receptive.  I emailed him a link to the TNT Diet book and gave him a quick synopsis of the plan.  It will be interesting to see what he does.

This morning was Workout B in my Design It Yourself program.  This is the light one.  15 reps per set.  There are two body weight exercises.  One is the Single Leg Get Up.  I am making progress – slowly – but progress nevertheless. Once I get to the point that I feel good about this, I will move to a slightly lower bench and away from a railing.

The other is the Swiss-Ball Hip Raise and Leg Curl.  Coincidently, Men’s Health sent me this exercise as part of it Exercise of the Week email subscription – it arrived this morning.  This only looks easy. I definitely feel silly doing it – at least in comparison to guys nearby doing super weighted core exercises.  But – damn – I can feel it – and there is no question that it is more effective than the machine.

This morning, I was at a business meeting out of the office.  One of the individuals was a woman who I had not seen in a couple of years.  She walked into the room, I stood as we shook hands and I mentioned my name.  She then left the room.  When she came back, she almost immediately commented on my weight loss.  She had not recognized me.  She had left the room to confirm who I was and then came back ready to be friendly.  This is not the first time this has happened to me but it is getting rarer as time marches on.  Always a joy.  🙂  It makes all the work worthwhile.
